This week has been tougher than the last two, for a whole host of reasons. For starters, the holiday novelty effect is definitely wearing off now, as the weather starts to decline- today it’s about the same temperature here as England. I’ve seen my first rain in the US today, shortly followed by loud, rumbling thunder- Good job I like storms! And, of course, there’s the added jealousy of seeing new Freshers heading off to Uni and most of my friends preparing for their final years- and this will only get worse when UoB return in week/fortnights time!!!
Staying in touch with my closest friends as we all get busier has been quite tough but, generally speaking, I’ve managed to speak to most of my friends/loved ones face to face or via email at some point this week. Genuinely couldn’t be happier that my closest Uni friend managed to get herself a placement in a country whose time zone complements mine so well; at least we always have each other Mems <3
However, In other ways, this week has also been pretty exciting... I attended some lectures with work (most of which I didn’t understand, but it was still fun to see how the Americans do Uni), Met some new people in my accommodation block, went shopping to the Mall in the next town across and bought lots of treats, applied for a volunteer’s position at the local Hospital and yesterday I had a walk to the Organic Farmer’s Market on the other side of Iowa City and finally managed to get my hands on some decent fruit, veg and a butchers for real meat! Au Reviour Walmart!
In other very exciting news, I have re-subscribed to my much loved National Georgraphic magazine, learnt how to use the residency’s laundry and bought my very first hoover and iron. Such a cool student. AND... I’m officially a staff member now, YAY!
My Employee ID...
Enjoy your week!
