Happy December Everyone!
The decorations are up (if a single string of tinsel posted to me from England by my Mom counts as ‘decorations’?). Buble has been played. The Countdown is officially on!
As I write this, only 12 ‘sleeps’ until I board my first flight of the journey home. Going so fast!
Life has been pleasantly relaxed for the last week, with Thanksgiving last thursday, I had a long weekend out of the lab and got plenty of my little jobs done, ready to start shopping and packing for Christmas and coming home.
Of course, my American experience wouldn’t have been complete without a traditional thanksgiving meal. So, after the idea was suggested by my colleague, the International contingent of the lab (which is basically all but two of us) and some of my friend G’s international buddies, jumped on the Thanksgiving bandwagon. G provided a scrumptiously tender Roast Turkey and mushroom gravy and the rest of us chipped in with mashed sweet potatoes, Cranberry sauce, puddings, chocolates and wine.
As one would expect, I took on the role of the dessert production. Including, producing the typical Thanksgiving pie. The only pie I knew how to bake being an old family favorite that is considered staple at any half-decent family get together back in England- Lemon Meringue Pie. Though I’d never made on alone before, I’d seen my Nan, Auntie and Mom produce probably hundreds of them during my lifetime and with the key lemon ingredients also sent from England (and, again with thanks to my dedicated Mother!) I was all set.I also decided on a caramel apple crumble cake, the recipe for which I sort of made up by combining a recipe my Mom had found with a long list of my favorite desserts and ingredients.
After spending thursday morning baking and watching holiday themed films on Lifetime Movie channel, I was pretty pleased with the results!!!
We had a lovely night, plenty of entertaining conversation and good food and drink- so i shall take this time to mention how thankful I am to have been welcomed so warmly into the lab by my brilliant lab-friends! Happy Holidays, America!
Love love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
