Spring! (Day 195)

Today was momentous. And also very strange.

The temperature not only made a successful attempt at sustaining itself above zero but managed to shoot right up to 13! It honestly felt balmy! (and barmy…) Guys were wearing shorts, girls banished the salopettes and scarves for leggings and sandals- It truly felt tropical. I’m not even exaggerating; with a super high humidity, I was reminded of the nearly-unbearable heat that I arrived here to- only days after it was possible for me to have gotten frostbite from staying outside for more than 15 minutes. Bonkers. I’m so happy that the snow is finally beginning to melt (hopefully that is the end of that!) and life can start happening again- particularly since I will soon be 21 and fully able to go out and enjoy myself with my friends.

Sadly, my ability to enjoy this weather transformation has been slightly hampered by a metatarsal injury. My physician couldn’t tell from my x-rays quite what was wrong and recommended an MRI, which I have been trying to avoid by wearing the very fetching boot the hospital provided me with and staying off my feet as much as is possible whilst working in a busy lab. At the moment it’s feeling okay but having not been exercising properly for a few weeks, I’m feeling quite frustrated and lethargic to say the least! Hopefully when I get back from my spring break trip back to the UK I will be fully mended and ready to get super bikini fit for my summer travels!

Its been birthday time in the lab during the last and coming week with J, My Boss and I all celebrating in only 9 days! In the spirit of such, I’ve been back to the oven- something which my lab-friends are very encouraging of!  J loves chocolate cake, so she got a chocolate fudge offering and since my boss hasn’t got such a sweet-tooth, I have just finished an orange-glazed cranberry, carrot and pecan loaf. Hopefully I have done it justice and it goes down well in the lab tomorrow!

I head back to the UK over spring break and for my 21st on Saturday, which I am very, very excited about! I have plans with almost all of my friends who are in the country whilst I am, and my family and I will do lots of the lovely family things that I have been missing out on for the last few months. Lets hope American Airlines manage to get me AND my checked bags to Manchester on time and in one piece!!!!

All very exciting!

Love love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
